What are the major functions and benefits of the IWCOA?

• IWCOA provides $1,000,000 liability insurance policies for Head Coaches for IWCOA open tournaments and camps.
• IWCOA recognizes our most accomplished athletes, coaches, officials, administrators, press, and legends with awards such as Hall of Fame Inductees and All-State Awards which honor our IHSA State place winners. Award recipients are recognized at the annual IWCOA Hall of Fame Banquet.
• IWCOA directs the annual Illinois / Indiana Classic Duals showcasing Illinois best.
• IWCOA directs the annual Freshman-Sophomore and Girls Open State Tournament.
• IWCOA organizes the annual Summer Midwest Nationals Wrestling Tournament.
• IWCOA supports the Ken Gerdes III Foundation, who awards annual Leadership Awards and donates to National, World and Olympic team members. They raise funds at the annual KGIII golf outing which attracts the “Who’s Who” of wrestling in the state.
• IWCOA sponsors nominations to the Illinois chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, the National Wrestling Association, and the National High School Athletic Coaches Association.
• IWCOA is instrumental in promoting change at the state level including updating wrestling rules, positive changes to the IHSA State Tournaments, and supporting girls wrestling at the state level.
• IWCOA provides financial support for press articles that cover wrestling throughout the state year around.
• IWCOA hosts live Rules Interpretation Clinics including Level 1 and Level 2 training.
• IWCOA hosts numerous officials postseason rules reviews and weekly officials forums.
