Steve Amy

Rockridge High School/Princeton

Steve Amy was introduced to the sport of wrestling at a very young age watching and practicing with his father, IWCOA Hall of Famer Rick Amy and his wrestlers.

Steve started his competitive career in the Jr. Rocket Wrestling Club where he was a 3-time IKWF State Finalists winning State Titles in 1994 and 1996. In 1996 he won the Ron Urwin award as the outstanding wrestler in the senior division of the IKWF State Tournament. He then went to Rockridge High School for 4 years to wrestle for his dad. During those years Steve compiled a 152-4 record for the Rockets. He was a 4-time Olympic Conference Champion, 4-time Regional Champion, 4-time Sectional Champion, and a 4-time State Finalists. Steve was a State Champion in 1997 at 130lbs, State Runner up in 1998 at 140lbs, State Champion in 1999 at 140 lbs., and a State Champion in 2000 at 145lbs. In 2000 Steve was named the Class A Wrestler of the Year by the IWCOA. He was also a 2-time Fargo All-American taking 4th in Freestyle and 5th in Greco Roman.

Steve then went on to wrestle at the University of Northern Iowa and then at Indiana University. After redshirting his freshman year, he transferred to Indiana University where he was a starter for the Hoosiers. After 2 years at Indiana, Steve followed his dreams of becoming a coach and moved to Lincoln College to serve as an assistant under IWCOA Hall of Fame coach Dave Klemm. During his 5 years at Lincoln, Steve helped coach 2 National Champions and 11 All Americans.

In 2008 Steve was hired at Princeton High School as both, teacher and head wrestling coach, succeeding IWCOA Hall of Fame coach Randy Swinford. In his 12 years at Princeton he has had 10 State Qualifiers and 4 State place winners.

Steve and his wife Staci have two children, Cooper and Hawk. They reside in Princeton, Illinois.
