Brandon Precin was a two-time IHSA champion who also took third place twice while competing for Carl

Sandburg from 2002-2006, which made him the first Eagle to be a four-time medalist and he’s still one of only

two who have pulled off that feat and his 186 wins is a program-best. Then he went on to make more history at

Northwestern University from 2006-2011, becoming the fifth Wildcat to be a three-time All-American and his

138 victories ranked him third when his career ended. As a result, he was inducted into the Northwestern Athletic

Hall of Fame in 2018.

He won his initial IHSA Class AA title in 2005 when he took first place at 125 and then he capped his career in

2006 with a Class AA championship at 130. Brandon took third place at 103 in 2003 and also placed third at 112

in 2004. He finished with a 186-6 record and recorded 85 falls. He received All-American recognition from USA

Magazine following his senior season. An Eagles team captain, he was also his team’s MVP for four-straight

seasons.

Brandon, who went 52-1 as a senior, 48-1 as a junior, 44-2 as a sophomore and 42-2 as a freshman, also got the

opportunity to be a member of two IHSA AA Dual Team championships for the Eagles, who finished 33-0 after

beating St. Rita 33-19 for the title in 2006 and were 30-1 in 2005 after defeating Glenbard North 26-23 in the

finals for the school’s initial IHSA title. He won four regional titles and three sectional titles, was a three-time

champion and four-time finalist at the Dvorak Invite and a two-time SICA West MVP. Brandon had 85 pins in

high school and was the Outstanding Wrestler of the 2006 Illinois/ Indiana Duals. Also from 2003-2006, he won

three Freestyle state titles and was a five-time FILA Cadet and Junior All-American.

At Northwestern, he finished with a 138-31 record, which was the third-highest total at the time. He took third

place in the NCAA Division I Finals at 125 in 2009 and 2011, was seventh at 125 in 2008 and qualified in 2007.

Brandon was one of two Wildcats to ever win two Midlands, in 2008 and 2010, and was the Art Kraft Champion

of Champions in the 2010 event and also was a Big Ten runner-up in 2009 and 2011, being Number 1-ranked and

a team captain in 2011, as well as being his team’s Most Valuable Wrestler and Northwestern’s Male of Athlete

of the Year.  And in 2007, he was a member of NU’s team that took fourth place in the NCAA Tournament.

Brandon also had a successful freestyle career, winning the University national title in 2011 and placing at the

U.S. Open multiple times. He medaled in various international tournaments as well as qualifying for the Olympic

trials. After a 10-year hiatus, he came out of retirement in 2025 to win a U.S. Open Master’s National title in

freestyle and became a UWW Veteran’s World Champion in freestyle.

Brandon has also been coaching for nearly 20 years, most recently helping Providence Catholic to second place

in the 2026 IHSA 2A Dual Team Finals. He mentored and coached his brother Robbie Precin, a two-time NCAA

champion, who was the IWCOA Assistant Coach of the Year in 2025 and helped coach Liz Short lead the District

230 co-op to the IHSA Girls Championship. He’s also coached at North Central College, where the Women’s

team won a national championship in 2023, as well as Northwestern and various wrestling clubs.
