Bob Dahm is a legendary figure in Illinois wrestling, whose career spans championship-level competition,

collegiate coaching excellence, transformative educational leadership and lifelong mentorship. The 12th of 14

children born to Norman and Dolores Dahm, Bob grew up embracing hard work, resilience, and a competitive

drive. He has been married to his wife Stephanie since October 3, 1992, and is the proud father of Alexandra, a

former high school and collegiate volleyball player who is now a kindergarten teacher and high school

volleyball coach. Alexandra is married to Brody, a high school basketball coach and English teacher, continuing

the family’s strong tradition of athletic and educational leadership.

A four-year varsity starter at Belleville West High School, Bob compiled an impressive 105 career wins and

captured the 1982 IHSA Individual State Championship at 145 pounds, helping establish Belleville West as a

wrestling powerhouse. He continued his wrestling career as a four-year varsity starter at Southern Illinois

University Edwardsville (SIUE) during one of the program’s most successful eras. Dahm earned NCAA All-

American honors in 1986 and 1987, captured Regional Championships in 1983, 1986, and 1987, and contributed

to SIUE National Championship teams in 1984, 1985, and 1986, as well as the National Runner-Up team in 1987.

He also holds the distinction of being Belleville West High School’s first NCAA All-American, a milestone that

elevated the program’s national profile.

Following his competitive career, Bob transitioned to coaching and program development with remarkable

impact. He served as the last head wrestling coach at Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC) from 1988 to 1993,

producing 15 NJCAA All-Americans and establishing SWIC as a nationally-respected program. His leadership

was recognized in 1990 when he was named Illinois NJCAA Coach of the Year. Though the program was

discontinued in 1993, his vision and advocacy brought wrestling back to SWIC as a club program in January 2026,

with plans to launch a full NJCAA varsity team in the 2026-2027 academic year.

He also returned to Belleville West, serving as head wrestling coach from 2021 to 2025, further strengthening the

school’s wrestling tradition and mentoring a new generation of athletes. Beyond athletics, Dahm had a

distinguished career in educational administration. He served as Assistant Principal at Belleville West High

School (2000–2004) and as Principal (2004–2012), earning a reputation for integrity, student-centered leadership, and fostering excellence in both academics and extracurricular programs. He also developed and directed the District 201 Alternative Day School, creating structured educational opportunities for at-risk students.
